APOLOGIES : Ann Verboeket. Stephen Lyons. MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY MEETING: Passed MATTERS ARISING • Parklands sound system - More work has been done on the sound system and the volume improved for the Dining Room. The contractor has more work to do. There have been problems with playing videos from USB sticks, which are caused by the way the sticks are formatted. FINANCIAL & LIBRARY REPORTS • Reports - these have been circulated • Applications for Funding - there was an application from the Lodge for 3 meal trays. It was considered and discussed by the subcommittee. A proposal was put forward to take the discussion over distribution of funds to the AGM but it was decided this was unnecessary. A policy of nice to have rather than need to have will be adopted. The application was approved. LODGE REPORT Alan Woodward - The Arts & Craft room is now in use & well attended. Re-roofing & redecorating the west will begin on Monday 10th. RESIDENTS’ COUNCIL REPORT Andrew McEwen - reported that a recent joint meeting of representatives of the Retirement Village operators, the RV Residents Association, the RV Council, the Statutory Supervisors, officials and chaired by the Retirement Commissioner had reached agreement in principle on a number of issues of concern in the retirement villages legislation. Since receiving a report on the outcomes, the Associate Minister of Housing advised participants that additional resources had been allocated to speed up the review, and subject to Cabinet decisions, an amendment Bill could be introduced in July next year rather than in the next term of government as previously announced.
GENERAL BUSINESS • Appointment of Returning Officer - Janet Robertson has agreed to this, and her appointment was confirmed. • Emergency Management - the recent sector exercise threw up a number of issues. The OK/HELP signs were not displayed. The information in the green folders needs to be up-dated and also needs to have a date displayed. Residents would like to have a list of staff names. There have been issues with the radios - the batteries fail when the radio is not turned off properly. We need to buy more radios - for the First Aid and Rescue people to stay in contact, to be able to link with the Baptist Church, and to communicate between the 2 hubs. The Lodge stands alone in an emergency. • Recycling initiatives, Caps and Lids, Marilyn has placed 2 buckets each at the Plateau & Parklands Social Centres - the Social Centre ones have been moved to beside the coffee machine. It is going well. A bridge in the zoo is made from re-cycled bottle tops. Egg Cartons/Kaibosh, Jan Williams is offering to organise recycling egg cartons, plastic 2L ice cream cartons, and large yoghurt containers for use by Kaibosh. The offer was accepted. We would reply to Viola Palmer’s email, asking for suggestions for further recycling initiatives. • Roster for Saturday morning tea notices and monthly dinners. There is no March monthly dinner. March 22 - Marilyn, 29th - Sue T, 5th April - Gerhard, 12th April - Kathy, 19th April Easter - Jan.
GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT As Stephen was absent Tony gave us the report. There is no new news following the sector meetings which were good with plenty of comments and questions. He asked if we could encourage people to talk about any hardships they may have. The new villa in Bellbird Cres is progressing well. All but 2 of our empty villas have been chosen by potential new residents. The monthly fee is not a charge for the Lodge residents. There is an issue with the decking outside the shed adjacent to the Pavilion on the Croquet Lawn. Two residents have fallen from it. The ground level had been built up to decrease the height of the bottom step, and to make its height more even
MARIE SIMPSON - PARKWOOD NEWS •The old keyboard is playing up. The decision was made to purchase a new one.
SUE TIMS, KATHY McLAUCHLAN - NEW RESIDENTS Sue welcomed 6 new residents, while Kathy welcomed one.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS This month the monthly dinner was cancelled. There have been complaints about the lack of communication regarding why it was cancelled. There will be an extended Happy Hour instead. Tony is to talk to Sally.
SHED OPERATIONS - Peter McCormick Peter gave a brief explanation of how the shed worked. They would be first notified by the office when a villa has been vacated. It can vary from having only furniture left to everything remaining including food. There is a team who help with the clearance. Items that are suitable for a fair are kept - other times outside firms may be contacted e.g The Salvation Army, Dunbar Sloane, Convert to Cash. • 2025 Fair : Kathy read an email from Christine Culling stating that she and Judy Davis were prepared to run a fair in September. This was gratefully received. We will follow Peter’s advice and pencil in a date for the fair, but not publish it until we know will have sufficient items in the shed.
